No one told me I would live this much,
No one told me I would give this much.
No one told me I would cry this much,
No one told me I would try this much.
No one told me my body would never again be mine,
No one told me I would never again have my own time.
No one told me I would laugh this much,
No one told me my heart would be cut in half this much.
No one told me the crazy thoughts that would enter my head,
No one told me fear for my child’s safety would fill me with dread.
No one told me I would have to put my dreams on hold,
No one told me - but would I have wanted to know?
No one told me that my children’s smiles could light up my life,
No one told me that children could cause a marriage such strife.
No one told me that as they grow, so does my sense of pride,
No one told me about the emotion and feelings inside.
What no one told me is that who I was no longer will be,
For I know now that my children make up the best parts of me.
